MORTENSEN RACE REPORT FOR JULY 10, 2010

In the warm-up session before the racing program began on Saturday July, 10 the Mortensen Motorsports #1M turned two quick laps of 20.547 and 19.943 as they were hoping to capture their first feature win of the 2010 racing season. In the second heat race Mark turned another quick lap of 20.224 and finished second in the qualifying heat race. That put him ninth on the starting grid for the 20-lap feature event which turned out to be an eventful one. When Mark tried to make a three wide move down the middle of two other cars going into turn four for the fifth position just past the halfway point in the event he made accidental contact with the car on the outside of him as everyone continued on despite the contact. Coming out of turn two the driver who Mark made contact with hit Mark intentionally resulting in the #1M spinning out on the track. After a quick trip to the “hot pit” area to check the car over Mark rejoined the rear of the field. At the checkered flag Mark made the best of what was a bad situation and gained six spots to finish the event in the eighth position at the checkered flag. That was the first finish out of the top five for Mark in 2010 but he still maintained his second position in the point standings.
