MORTENSEN RACE REPORT FOR 7/18/09 |
After six weeks of rained out racing programs at the Fonda Speedway the rain finally cut the Track of Champions a break with racing action resuming at the track on Saturday July, 18.
The Jumpin' Jack's Drive-In sponsored #1M Teo car driven by Scotia, NY resident Mark Mortensen went out in his heat race in the fifth starting position and at the completion of the event he ended up in the same position.
Mortensen started 10th in the 30-lap feature event and after some contact by another race car Mark fell all the way back to the 15th position. From that point on he did nothing but move forward passing cars on both the inside and outside of the speedway.
When the checkered flag flew it was Mark Kislowski the winner while Mortensen made it all the way up to the fifth position, turning the fastest laps of all cars at the end of the event.
The fifth place finish moved Mortensen up to the fifth position in points, only 30 points behind new point leader John McAuliffe.
