MARK MORTENSEN RACE REPORT JUNE 6, 2009 |
All of the hard work by the Mortensen pit crew after the previous week’s damage to the race car paid off on Saturday June, 6 at the Fonda Speedway for Sportsman division driver Mark Mortensen. In qualifying heat number two Mark set the fastest lap of all in the qualifying events with a lap of 21.111 sec. winning the event in the process.
After starting fifth in the 20-lap Sportsman event Mark moved up to the second position by the time lap five was completed. When race leader David Towns slowed coming out of turn four Mark had to slow up dramatically and swerve in order to keep from hitting Towns. He was able to get by Towns safely but in the meantime Luke Munroe had a full head of steam built up and went around the outside of both Mark and Towns for the lead.
From that point on Munroe pulled away from the field to take the win followed by Mark who moved up into third place in the point standings after a great second place finish in the feature event.
