MARK MORTENSEN RACE REPORT MAY 30, 2009 |
On Saturday, May 30 Mark Mortensen faced double features at the Fonda Speedway after a rainout on May 16. Although it didn’t turn out to be a good night for the Jumpin’ Jack’s Drive In sponsored #1M Mark made the best of what turned out to be a very frustrating evening.
Mark Started the rained out feature from May 16 in the eighth position but struggled to get the Boyd’s Motorworks powered Teo car to grip the very slippery racing surface. He finished the event in the eighth position and then went pit side to prepare the car for qualifying events for feature number two.
In his heat race Mark finished fifth qualifying him to start ninth in the second feature event. Struggling to get his car to handle Mark spoke with defending Modified track champion Bobby Varin who suggested that a couple of changes be made to Mark’s race car.
Those changes were made and Mark started the second feature event hoping for a decent finish, When Chuck Allen spun on the back stretch and came to a stop; Mark was forced to take evasive action to avoid hitting Allen so he drove the car to the infield. He restarted the event at the rear end of the field.
Coming out of turn four on lap nine Mark hit the turn one wall with the right rear of his car resulting in a flat tire and a bent aluminum wheel. He pitted under caution for a quick tire change by the Mortensen Motorsports pit crew and restarted at the rear of the field yet again. Mark passed a few cars before the checkered flag flew, finishing the event in the 10th position.
