MARK MORTENSEN RACE REPORT FOR MAY 23, 2009 |
After two weeks without any racing action Mark Mortensen and the Jumpin Jack’s Drive In sponsored #1M was ready to go and Mark was eager to get back out on the race track on Saturday May 23.
Mark started sixth in the second Sportsman heat race and moved up to the fourth position before the car jumped out of gear and he came to a stop in turn three bringing out the caution flag.
Mark got the car back in gear and rejoined the event at the rear of the field, driving the car with one hand while holding the car in gear with the other hand. He moved up to the fourth and final qualifying position putting him seventh on the starting grid for the 20-lap Sportsman feature event.
At one point in the feature event Mark was up as high as the fifth position and had a great back and forth race going amongst himself and defending track champion David Towns. At the checkered flag it was Mark Kislowski the race winner while Mark finished just outside of the top five in the sixth spot moving him up to fourth in the point standings.
