MARK MORTENSEN WEEKLY RESULTS 4/18/09 |
Saturday evening April 18th, 2009 didn’t start out too well for the Mortensen Motorsports #1M racing team and its driver Mark Mortensen. During the warm up session, the transmission in the Boyd Motorworks powered Teo Pro car got stuck in gear.
The car was repaired and Mark started fifth in the first Sportsman heat race. During the early laps of the heat race another car developed problems in front of Mark who took evasive action and tried to stop his car before hitting the stopped car in front of him.
Mark ended up hitting the back of the stopped car near the flag stand on the front stretch and the hit knocked the front end of Mark’s race car out of alignment. Mark finished last in the heat race and the crew went to work on the damage to the car to get it ready for the feature event.
Between Mark and his fine pit crew consisting of his brother Brett, who is the crew chief, his father Bob, his friend Andy, his girlfriend Alisha, Brett’s girlfriend Lindsey, and Mark’s mom, Bonnie, who is also the car owner, the car was repaired and Mark lined up 13th for the 20-lap feature event.
After the green flag flew to start the feature event, Mark allowed the field in front of him to sort itself out before starting his move to the front. In the early stages of the event Mark made his way into the top ten as he passed one car at a time to get to the front. By lap 10 he was solidly in the top five.
Mark made his way past John McAuliffe for the fourth position on lap 14 with David Towns leading, Luke Munroe second and Mark Kislowski almost a straight away ahead in third. Mortensen set the fastest time of any driver during the feature event with a lap of 20.913 sec. and because of that he was able to close in on Kislowski in the closing laps of the event but he never got close enough to mount a challenge for the third spot.
Munroe went on to win the opening event of the 2009 point season followed by Towns, Kislowski and Mark in fourth which was a great way to start out the 2009 racing season at the Track of Champions.
Mortensen Motorsports would like to thank the following sponsors: Jumpin Jacks Drive-In of Scotia, Wolberg Electric, 1st National Bank of Scotia, Country Side Stove and Chimney of Burnt Hills, Socha Plaza, Schenectady Unit Parts – NAPA, Mortensen Electric, Mohawk Heating Company, Marshall and Sterling, Gabriele’s Supermarkets, Goldstocks Sporting Goods, Super 50 Storage, and Roy Matthews TV & Appliance.
